After attending a photography retreat in Texas, I landed in Halifax wanting to put together my very own styled elopement in an epic location that would highlight Nova Scotia’s diverse landscapes & gorgeous scenery. After envisioning all the different places and regions around the province I’d seen over the years as a Halifax Wedding Photographer, the idea of going to Peggy’s Cove / the South Shore area kept coming to mind – a location I had yet to photograph in but have always adored. I settled on Polly’s Cove (a few minutes away from the infamous lighthouse in Peggy’s Cove) and drove up with a friend a few days prior to the shoot to scout out the best photo spots.
I reached out to a bunch of incredible vendors and was so excited with how things unfolded, with so many amazing items & pieces donated in order to make this adventure elopement a reality. (See more below to learn more about all the lovely vendors who participated)!
The day came, and we hit the road full of adrenaline, ready to take on the South Shore (despite the cold November weather). I set up + styled the ceremony area on a large flat rock and got to shooting! My models Angela and Talha (friends living in Toronto that were back in Halifax for a visit) had such great chemistry I barely had to direct them; most of the photos you’ll see were them naturally interacting and being their adorable selves.
We then found our way into the forest and climbed some large monolithic granite rocks in order to get a view of the rugged coastline. (Fun fact: the landscape is surrounded by huge erratic boulders, deposited thousands of years ago by retreating glaciers). We utilized this space for bride & groom photos and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! It was a nice change of scenery being able to shoot in such a unique barren location.
With the sun setting, we were in a race against the clock to get our final shots in. I absolutely loveeee champagne shower photos & knew I definitely wanted to incorporate those into our shoot. I was also gifted an adorable “we eloped” sign which was perfect for this earthy adventure elopement session. How cute did these turn out?!
And lastly: can’t forget those detail shots! I love slowing down and focusing on all the things that make up a wedding or elopement. Detail shots are a small but very special part of your day – these significant items will remind you of all of the effort that went into making your dream day a reality. You’ll also have a permanent record of these little details that you might otherwise forget.
