When it came to planning this editorial at The Lafayette Hotel in San Diego, I knew we wanted to lean into everything that makes the property so iconic. Bold colours, playful patterns, vintage glamour, and an atmosphere that feels equal parts old Hollywood and rock-and-roll rebellion.
Recently restored and reimagined, The Lafayette is unlike any other hotel in California. Every corner feels intentionally designed, with layers of texture, vibrant colour palettes, dramatic lighting, and eclectic details that create endless inspiration for couples looking for something beyond the traditional wedding aesthetic. Rather than fighting against the hotel’s personality, our goal was to fully embrace it.
For this editorial, we envisioned a luxury bridal story with an anti-bride edge. Something fashion-forward and elevated, while still feeling effortless, cool, and a little rebellious.
At the centre of the look was the stunning Anastasia gown by renowned designer Kim Kassas, generously provided by luxury bridal boutique Jaxon James Couture. Featuring a structured corset silhouette and dramatic detailing, the gown felt perfectly at home within the bold surroundings of The Lafayette. To complete the look, we paired it with a Juliet cap veil, adding a subtle vintage influence that nodded to old Hollywood glamour while still feeling distinctly modern.
The groom’s styling was equally important to the overall vision. Rather than a traditional wedding-day look, we leaned into a cool groom aesthetic with an all-black suit, layered jewelry, statement accessories, an open collar and an effortless rock-and-roll energy. The goal was to create a fashion-forward counterpart to the bridal styling, resulting in a look that felt editorial and modern.
We began our shoot poolside, capturing some of the hotel’s most recognizable spaces. Surrounded by striped loungers, towering palms, and the vibrant energy that has made The Lafayette famous, we focused on creating imagery that felt both luxurious and playful. The pool area offered the perfect backdrop for fashion-forward bride and groom portraits, blending California cool with an editorial sensibility.
From there, we moved inside to explore some of the property’s most visually striking interiors. The lobby bar provided a rich, sophisticated atmosphere filled with texture, warm tones, and vintage character. Every detail felt carefully curated, making it the ideal setting for elevated editorial portraits.
As we wandered through the hotel, we embraced the unexpected design moments that make The Lafayette so memorable. Hallways lined with cheetah-print carpet, dramatic colour palettes, bold architectural details, and layers of pattern created a sense of movement and energy throughout the story. Rather than treating these elements as background details, they became part of the narrative itself.
The editorial concluded downstairs at the infamous Lou Lou’s Jungle Room, one of the most distinctive spaces in the entire hotel. With its zebra patterns, saturated blues, rich textures, and unapologetically maximalist design, it felt like the perfect setting to fully lean into the anti-bride concept. This was where we really got to loosen up and have fun with the creative direction, embracing movement, personality, and a touch of chaos. Rather than focusing on perfectly polished poses, we wanted the imagery to feel playful, rebellious, and a little unexpected, capturing the kind of effortless chemistry and rock-and-roll energy that makes a couple uniquely themselves. The result was a collection of images that feels equal parts luxury fashion editorial and modern wedding inspiration.
For couples drawn to bold design, statement bridal fashion, and wedding imagery that feels more like a magazine editorial than a traditional wedding album, The Lafayette offers endless inspiration. Combined with the artistry of Kim Kassas’ Anastasia gown and the vintage romance of a Juliet cap veil, this editorial became a celebration of individuality, creativity, and fashion-forward wedding style.
