Eloping in Tuscany: A Guide to Your Dream Italian Wedding

August 7, 2024

Hannah and Wes, a sweet and fun couple from Halifax, Nova Scotia, initially envisioned a large wedding celebration in coastal Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. However, after learning their chosen venue was closing due to renovations and their wedding had been cancelled, they took it as a sign from the universe. Embracing the unexpected twist of fate, they decided to elope in the enchanting region of Tuscany, Italy, surrounded by their nine closest friends and family members at Agriturismo Santa Margherita in Umbria; a stunning wedding venue that also serves as accomodation for guests.

Why Elope in Tuscany?

1. Breathtaking Scenery

Tuscany offers a picturesque backdrop with its rolling hills, cypress trees, and historic architecture. Imagine saying your vows against a sunset over the vineyards or in a charming medieval town square. The natural beauty of Tuscany ensures that every moment of your special day is unforgettable and photogenic.

2. Intimate and Personal

Eloping allows for a more intimate and personalized ceremony. With just your closest loved ones present, you can focus on what truly matters—your love and commitment to each other. Tuscany’s cozy villas and boutique hotels provide the perfect setting for a private and meaningful celebration.

3. Delicious Cuisine and Wine

Tuscany is renowned for its delectable cuisine and world-class wines. Celebrate your marriage with a feast featuring local delicacies like handmade pasta, truffles, and fresh produce, paired with exceptional wines from the region’s famous vineyards. A Tuscan elopement ensures your wedding meal is an unforgettable culinary experience.

4. Rich Cultural Experience

Eloping in Tuscany offers more than just beautiful scenery; it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in Italian culture. Explore historic towns, visit art galleries and museums, and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals. Your wedding becomes a unique adventure, blending romance with cultural enrichment.

5. Stress-Free Planning

Planning a large wedding can be overwhelming, but eloping simplifies the process. Many venues and wedding planners in Tuscany specialize in elopements, offering packages that include everything from accommodations and officiants to flowers and photography. This allows you to relax and enjoy your special day without the stress of managing numerous details.

How to Elope in Tuscany

  1. Choose the Perfect Venue Tuscany boasts a variety of stunning venues, from luxurious villas and castles to rustic farmhouses and intimate gardens. Research and choose a location that resonates with your vision for your wedding day.
  2. Hire a Local Planner A local wedding planner can be invaluable in navigating the logistics of a destination wedding. They can help with legal requirements, vendor recommendations, and creating a seamless experience for you and your guests. I also offer some planning assistance in my Elopement Photography packages – feel free to reach out for more info 🙂
  3. Plan the Details Decide on the elements that will make your day special—whether it’s a private wine tasting, a candlelit dinner under the stars, or a symbolic ceremony in a historic chapel. Incorporate personal touches to make the day truly yours.
  4. Notify Friends and Family Since eloping often involves a smaller guest list, communicate your plans early with those you wish to invite. Consider hosting a post-elopement celebration when you return home to include those who couldn’t make the trip.
  5. Capture the Moment Hiring a professional photographer who understands the local landscape and light, like me, is crucial! I can help you document the beauty and emotion of your day, ensuring you have stunning memories to cherish forever – and become your bestie + personal hype girl for the day.

Hannah and Wes’ decision to elope in Tuscany turned their initial wedding plans into an extraordinary adventure. By embracing the unexpected and choosing a destination that resonated with their hearts, they created a wedding day filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments. If you’re considering an elopement, Tuscany might just be the perfect place to start your forever.
